Israel Zangwill was an author and the son of Russian Jewish immigrants. Zangwill is perhaps best known for writing a play titled The Melting Pot, in which he described America as a place where people of various ethnic backgrounds would come together and assimilate into a new country. This week, we are not talking about our country, but the Church. We see that God always intended his Church would be a melting pot. Even in the Old Testament, God wanted his grace and salvation to be proclaimed to all people, not just the Children of Israel. In the New Testament, the apostle Paul goes so far as to say, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile… for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). The desired diversity is something worthy of our undivided attention.
